Introduced in 2023 as a mid-level vertical-lift wheeled skid loader (its Manitou-network twin is the 2100 V), the Gehl V210 slots between the radial R-series and the big V270 with a 2,100 lb rated capacity, a 69 hp Yanmar diesel, and a 120.5-inch hinge pin height for pallet and truck-loading work.

What the spec sheet says

We could not find owner reporting for this machine anywhere, so there is none here. What follows is read off the published specifications and what they imply, not off anyone's experience — treat it as a starting point and a list of things to ask a dealer.

Sitting between the radial-lift R190 and the vertical-lift V230, this is the narrow machine in Gehl's mid-range, and the specification reads like a deliberate compromise rather than a compromise by accident. Nothing has been published about how it behaves in service - it appears in family launch announcements and dealer listings and nowhere else - so what follows is an argument from the numbers Gehl publishes, not an account of anyone's experience with it.

The numbers are strongest on hydraulics and width. A 23 gpm standard circuit at 3,475 psi is above much of the class's base flow and four gpm above Gehl's own R190, and 64 inches across is three inches narrower than the V230 for only 200 lbs less rated capacity. The vertical linkage buys 34 inches of reach at full dump height. What it conspicuously does not buy is height: 90 inches of dump height is an inch below both the radial R190 and the V230, despite a taller hinge pin than either. The high-flow option is worth reading carefully too, because it raises volume to 30 gpm while dropping pressure to 3,325 psi - a real gain, but about a quarter rather than the third the flow figures imply - and the 6 gallon reservoir behind it is small for sustained work at that rate.

On paper this suits work where a gate, a side yard or a trailer weight limit is the binding constraint and 2,100 lbs is enough capacity, with enough standard flow to run attachments without paying for the high-flow package. The V230 is close enough above it that both should be priced before choosing. Ask a dealer to put three things in writing: the rated capacity with the optional counterweight fitted, which Gehl does not publish; the hydraulic cooling arrangement if high flow is specified, given the 6 gallon reservoir; and the actual drive to the nearest service department that stocks parts for this platform under either the Gehl or the Manitou badge.

What it has going for it

  • Standard auxiliary flow is 23 gpm at 3,475 psi, which is four gpm more than the R190 one step below it in Gehl's own range and above what much of this capacity class ships as base flow. A good deal of attachment work - augers, grapples, brooms, mid-size brush cutters - happens on that circuit without buying an upgrade.
  • Vertical lift geometry gives 34 inches of reach at full dump height, so the load ends up out over a truck side rather than swinging back toward the machine at the top of the cycle. That reach, rather than extra height, is what the vertical linkage actually buys on this frame.
  • At 64 inches wide it is three inches narrower than the V230 above it while carrying only 200 lbs less rated capacity - the narrowest machine in Gehl's vertical-lift line, and the one most likely to fit a gate or a side yard.
  • The Yanmar 4TNV98C is naturally aspirated and makes its 178 lb-ft torque peak at 1,625 rpm, low in the range. Gehl runs the same 98-series block in the R190 and, in turbocharged form, in the V230, so parts commonality across three machines in the range is high.
  • A two-speed option lifts travel from 8 mph to 12 mph, which is quick for a wheeled machine and meaningful on any site where the pile and the work are a long way apart.
  • The 28 US gallon fuel tank is large for a machine of this size, enough for a full shift of loader work without a refuelling stop.
  • Manitou sells the identical machine as the 2100V, so two dealer networks carry the same parts and the same service literature. On a brand whose coverage is thinner than Bobcat's or Deere's, a second badge is a second place to get a part on a Friday afternoon.

Where it gives something up

  • Maximum dump height is 90 inches - an inch lower than both the radial-lift R190 below it and the V230 above it, despite a 121-inch hinge pin. Anything that depends on clearing a high side is not this machine's strength, and the vertical linkage does not fix it.
  • The 2,100 lb rating is 50 percent of a 4,200 lb tipping load, the convention for wheeled skid steers. Compact track loaders are quoted at 35 percent. The same headline figure on a track loader's brochure therefore represents more reserve than it does here, which matters whenever the two types are compared side by side.
  • The high-flow option trades pressure for volume rather than adding both: 30 gpm at 3,325 psi against the standard circuit's 23 gpm at 3,475 psi. That is roughly a quarter more power at the coupler, not the third the flow figures on their own suggest.
  • The hydraulic reservoir holds 6 US gallons while the high-flow option moves 30 gpm. At full flow the tank turns over about five times a minute, which places the whole burden of continuous mulching or planing work on the cooler and on fluid condition rather than on reservoir volume.
  • The gap to the V230 is narrow: 200 lbs more rated capacity for 269 lbs more weight, three more inches of width, and a turbocharged version of the same engine block. That is a small step to pay for and a small step to give up, so this frame only makes sense if the 64-inch width or the 7,480 lb weight is doing real work in the decision.
  • Gehl advertises an optional counterweight to raise capacity but does not publish the resulting figure. Since rated capacity is the number the machine is bought on, that has to be extracted from a dealer in writing before it can be compared with anything.

What buyers ask

How does the V210 differ from the V230 and the R190?
Capacity and width, mostly. The R190 is rated 1,900 lbs off a 3,800 lb tipping load with 19 gpm standard flow and a 62-inch width, on radial lift. This machine is 2,100 lbs off 4,200 lbs, 23 gpm, 64 inches, vertical lift. The V230 is 2,300 lbs off 4,600 lbs, the same 23 gpm, 67 inches wide, and uses a turbocharged version of the same Yanmar block. The three steps are small enough that all of them should be quoted.
Is the high-flow option worth specifying?
Only for attachments that genuinely need it, and it is less of a jump than the headline suggests. Standard is 23 gpm at 3,475 psi; high flow is 30 gpm at 3,325 psi. Because pressure drops as volume rises, the gain at the coupler works out to roughly a quarter rather than a third. Note also that the hydraulic reservoir holds 6 US gallons, so sustained high-flow work leans heavily on the cooler.
Why is its dump height lower than the radial-lift R190's?
A vertical linkage trades geometry rather than simply adding height. This machine's hinge pin sits at 121 inches against the R190's 119, but published dump height is 90 inches against 91. What the vertical path delivers instead is 34 inches of reach at full height, which puts the load out over an obstacle rather than back toward the machine. If maximum height is the requirement, neither of these frames is the answer.
How should I read the 2,100 lb rated capacity?
As 50 percent of a 4,200 lb tipping load, which is the standard convention for wheeled skid steers and is how Gehl states it. Compact track loaders are normally rated at 35 percent of tipping load. Comparing a 2,100 lb wheeled machine against a 2,100 lb track loader is therefore not a like-for-like comparison - the track loader is holding more back. Compare tipping loads across machine types instead.
Is it the same machine as the Manitou 2100V?
Yes. Gehl and Manitou are the same company and the machine is sold under both badges. The practical value is a second dealer network for parts and service, which matters more on this brand than on Bobcat or Deere. Quote both before buying, and weigh the distance to each service department as part of the price.
