The compact track loader started here. Takeuchi, founded in 1963 in Sakaki in Japan's Nagano Prefecture, built the first compact excavator in 1971 and in 1986 introduced the TL10, the first rubber-tracked compact loader, after Akio Takeuchi saw a wheeled skid steer stuck in mud on a visit to the United States. The company has sold in the US through its own subsidiary since 1979, and it makes only tracked loaders: there is no wheeled Takeuchi skid steer to compare.
R is radial lift, V is vertical lift, the number tracks frame size, and the suffix is the generation. The TL6R, TL8R2 and TL12R2 are radial machines aimed at digging and grading; the TL10V2 and TL12V2 are the vertical-lift versions for truck loading. Owners stay with the brand for the undercarriage, which is built to be rebuilt roller by roller from parts shared across several models. The recurring complaint is the aftertreatment: particulate filter alarms and failed regens, with diagnosis slowed because the engine is Kubota's rather than Takeuchi's. Against Kubota's SVL track loaders, all vertical lift on this site, Takeuchi offers a radial boom at four sizes. Takeuchi's standard warranty is two years or 2,000 hours, and its optional Premier warranty extends track loaders to three years or 3,000 hours if the owner uses genuine Takeuchi parts.
