The bright segment is what Gehl R190 GEN:2 is rated to carry; the grey run past it is the rest of its tipping load. Bar length is tipping load drawn to the same scale on every machine on the site, so a short bar is a smaller machine and not a conservative rating.

Gehl publishes no list price for this machine, and we found no dealer listing worth quoting, so there is no number here to give you. What we can say is what the machines around it cost: the middle half of the 13 wheeled machines within 15 per cent of its capacity list between $47,000 and $54,000. That is a fact about them, not a quote for this one.

Top of what is now a small-machine-only radial range: since the R220 and R260 left the lineup, 1,900 lbs is as much radial lift as Gehl sells on wheels. A 69 hp Yanmar, 30 GPM high-flow option and 12 mph two-speed make it the most capable radial wheeled machine in the catalog.

What owners report

Summarised from the sources listed below. Nothing here was tested by us.

Radial geometry at the top of the wheeled range is a narrowing niche, and this is where Gehl still serves it. Owners choosing it are choosing arms that push hard at ground level over arms that place loads high, and accepting the reach compromise that comes with that - it is a dirt and material machine first, a truck-loading machine second.

What you get for the money is a naturally aspirated 69.3 hp Yanmar with its torque peak low in the range, 19 gpm standard flow with a 30 gpm option, a 119-inch hinge pin and an optional two-speed that takes travel to twelve mph. The detail most buyers miss is that the high-flow circuit runs at 2,901 psi where the standard circuit runs at 3,002 - more oil, marginally less pressure - which matters for attachments rated on pressure. Controls are configurable between T-bar, joystick and hand-foot, so operators coming off any brand can be accommodated.

Grading, scraping, feeding and loading on one property is the farm-or-small-contractor case, where the twelve mph range earns its cost back. Gehl publishes no list price, so quote it under both its own name and the Manitou 1900R NXT:2. Before signing, confirm two-speed is actually on the build, check whether the high-flow circuit's pressure suits the attachments you already own, and get the dealer to state what they stock rather than order.

What owners like

  • Twelve mph with the two-speed option is the fastest travel in this part of Gehl's range and transforms how a machine this size works across acreage - the difference between an eight mph single-speed and a twelve mph high range is roughly a third off every carry.
  • The 69.3 hp Yanmar 4TNV98C-NMS2V makes its 178 ft-lbs of torque down at 1,625 rpm, which is what you want in a loader - the machine pushes into a pile without being revved to find its power.
  • A 119-inch hinge pin height on a 6,995 lb wheeled machine clears standard tandem dump bodies, so it is not restricted to trailers and low-side trucks the way the smaller R-series machines are.
  • Radial lift is the point of this model - it is the largest radial wheeled skid steer Gehl still sells, and the geometry digs and backdrags harder at grade than a vertical arm of the same rating.
  • Two years and 2,000 hours of full-machine warranty is better than the single year several premium brands still ship, and Gehl's parent has been extending service intervals - filter changes moved from 500 to 1,000 hours - which takes real money out of the maintenance schedule.
  • Also sold as the Manitou 1900R NXT:2, so there are two dealer networks that can supply it and service it; price both, because they quote independently.

What owners complain about

  • The 1,900 lb rating is taken at 50 percent of tipping load, not the 35 percent Gehl uses on its own track loaders. Against a brand that rates at 35 percent, this machine holds back less reserve at the same quoted number - a 3,800 lb tipping load is what is actually underneath it.
  • High flow is 30 gpm but Gehl publishes it at 2,901 psi against the standard circuit's 3,002 psi, so the option buys volume at slightly lower pressure. For attachments specified on pressure rather than flow, that is worth checking before ordering.
  • Standard auxiliary flow is 19 gpm - actually one gpm less than the smaller R165 gets - so stepping up from the R165 to this machine buys capacity and weight, not hydraulic capability.
  • Self-leveling is not part of the radial R-series package, so pallet and bale work means feathering the bucket by hand all day.
  • At 6,995 lbs it is past what a half-ton pickup and a light trailer will move, which pushes some buyers into a bigger tow vehicle they had not budgeted for.
  • Two-speed is an option rather than standard equipment, so the eight mph base machine is what you get if it is not specified - check the quote line by line.

What buyers ask

Is the R190's 1,900 lb rating measured the same way as Gehl's track loaders?
No, and this catches people out inside a single brand. Gehl rates its wheeled R-series at 50 percent of tipping load and its RT and VT track loaders at 35 percent. So an R190 GEN:2 at 1,900 lbs and an RT195 at 1,950 lbs are not close cousins - the tracked machine holds back far more reserve. Compare tipping loads, 3,800 lbs against 5,571 lbs, to see the real gap.
Is the two-speed option worth the money?
On a property of any size, yes. Base travel is eight mph and the option takes it to twelve. That is close to a third off the time spent moving rather than working, and it is the single option on this machine most likely to pay for itself. It is not standard, so check it is on the quote.
Does the high-flow package give up anything?
A little pressure. Gehl publishes the standard circuit at 3,002 psi and the 30 gpm high-flow circuit at 2,901 psi. For most flow-hungry attachments that is immaterial, but if you run something specified on pressure - certain breakers and planers - confirm it will make its rated performance on 2,901 psi before ordering.
What is the difference between the R190 and the smaller R165?
Less than the model numbers suggest. Both use the same 69.3 hp Yanmar, both have a 119-inch hinge pin, and the R165 actually carries one gpm more standard flow at 20 against 19. The R190 buys 250 lbs of rated capacity and about 830 lbs of machine weight. If capacity is not the binding constraint, the R165 is the better value of the pair.
Can it do pallet work?
It will carry the load, but self-leveling is not offered on the radial R-series, so the operator feathers the bucket manually to keep forks level through the lift. That is a learnable skill rather than a dealbreaker, but on a machine bought mainly for handling pallets and bales a vertical-lift model with self-leveling is the easier tool.
