The bright segment is what Gehl RT195 is rated to carry; the grey run past it is the rest of its tipping load. Bar length is tipping load drawn to the same scale on every machine on the site, so a short bar is a smaller machine and not a conservative rating.

One caveat on this machine: we could not find a published tipping load for it, so the figure above is its advertised capacity divided by the fraction its maker rates at. That makes the grey run arithmetic rather than a measurement, and it is the number worth asking a dealer to confirm.

Gehl publishes no list price for this machine, and we found no dealer listing worth quoting, so there is no number here to give you. What we can say is what the machines around it cost: the middle half of the 18 track loaders within 15 per cent of its capacity list between $60,000 and $69,000. That is a fact about them, not a quote for this one.

Badged 'RT195 - NEW' on gehl.com, this 1,950 lb radial track loader replaced the RT185 and is now the largest radial CTL Gehl builds. Everything above it in the track range switched to vertical lift, so this is the last machine in the lineup with radial geometry and tracks.

What owners report

Summarised from the sources listed below. Nothing here was tested by us.

Buyers who specifically want radial lift with tracks and more than 1,650 lbs of capacity have very little to choose from, and this is most of what is left. That scarcity, rather than any single specification, is the reason it gets bought - the arms push hard at grade, the tracks float, and nothing else in Gehl's range combines the two above the small-frame machines.

The practical picture is mixed and worth understanding before ordering. Standard flow is only 18 gpm, the lowest in the range above the RT135, while the high-flow option jumps all the way to 32 gpm - the widest gap between base and optional flow Gehl publishes. That makes the option effectively part of the machine for anyone running attachments. The 68.4 hp Yanmar makes 178 ft-lbs at 2,500 rpm, hinge pin height matches the smaller RT165 at 120 inches, and travel is single-speed. Undercarriage is conventional rigid-roller with automatic tensioning.

Dirt work on soft or sloping ground rather than truck loading is its brief, and the owner should specify high flow from the start. Gehl publishes no price, so gather quotes under both the Gehl and Manitou 1950RT names. Before signing, pin down the flow package, the track width and tread pattern, whether a counterweight is included, and which of the two badges' published operating weights matches the machine actually on the lot.

What owners like

  • Radial geometry above 1,650 lbs has almost disappeared from the market, and this is Gehl's answer for buyers who want it. Radial arms push harder at and just below grade, which is where backdragging, scraping and rough grading actually happen.
  • The high-flow option is 32 gpm, the largest step-up in Gehl's track loader range and more than the VT210 and RT165 get. Specified that way it will genuinely turn a mid-size mulching head rather than merely spinning one slowly.
  • Gehl prints both rating bases - 1,950 lbs at 35 percent of tipping load and 2,787 lbs at 50 percent - which makes an honest comparison against 50 percent-basis rivals possible without doing arithmetic on a tipping load you have to hunt for.
  • Tracks under a radial arm is the combination for soft ground and side slopes, where a wheeled machine of the same rating is spinning and rutting long before this one is working hard.
  • The Manitou 1950RT is the same machine, and the Manitou listing is the more informative of the two - it publishes the 92-inch dump height, 39-degree dump angle and 26-inch dump reach that the Gehl page leaves out. Read both before you buy.

What owners complain about

  • Eighteen gpm of standard auxiliary flow is the lowest of any Gehl track loader above the 1,350 lb class - less than the smaller RT165's 19 gpm and well under the VT210's 23. On the base machine that is a real constraint, so the high-flow option is close to mandatory rather than optional.
  • No two-speed travel is listed, which on an 8,400 lb machine makes every move between work areas slower than it needs to be.
  • A 120-inch hinge pin height is no taller than the smaller RT165's, so the extra 300 lbs of rating buys capacity and nothing in reach or height.
  • Radial lift pulls the bucket back toward the machine as it rises, so loading over a high truck side takes deliberate positioning in a way a vertical-lift machine does not. If truck loading is most of the work, the VT210 is the better-matched machine.
  • Gehl's published operating weight is 8,400 lbs while the identical Manitou 1950RT is listed at 7,952 lbs - the two badges are quoting different standard configurations, so confirm exactly what is on the machine you are quoted rather than trusting either headline figure.
  • No list price is published, and a radial CTL this size is a thin enough segment that used comparables are hard to find for benchmarking.

What buyers ask

Do I need the high-flow option on an RT195?
If you plan to run anything beyond a bucket, grapple or light auger, yes. Standard flow is 18 gpm, which is low for an 8,400 lb machine and less than the smaller RT165 gets. The high-flow package takes it to 32 gpm, which is a genuinely capable figure. It is one of the few options on a compact loader that changes what the machine can do rather than how comfortable it is.
How does the RT195 compare with the vertical-lift VT210?
The VT210 rates 150 lbs higher, has 23 gpm standard instead of 18, gains an inch of hinge pin height, and lifts on a vertical path that places loads over a truck side more easily. The RT195's advantage is radial geometry, which pushes harder at ground level, and a higher ceiling on optional flow at 32 gpm against the VT210's 30. Choose on whether your work is loading or grading.
Is 1,950 lbs a conservative rating?
It is on the conservative convention, yes. Gehl rates its track loaders at 35 percent of tipping load, so the machine holds back more reserve than a rival quoting the same number at 50 percent. On the 50 percent basis this machine would read 2,787 lbs. When comparing against Case, New Holland or Wacker Neuson track loaders, use 2,787, not 1,950.
Is the Manitou 1950RT a different machine?
It is the same machine under Manitou's badge. The two listings do not carry identical figures - Manitou publishes 7,952 lbs operating weight against Gehl's 8,400 - which reflects different standard configurations rather than different hardware. Read both pages, because between them they publish more of the spec sheet than either does alone.
Can the RT195 load a full-size dump truck?
It can reach the height - 120 inches at the hinge pin, with the Manitou listing quoting a 92-inch dump height - but radial lift brings the bucket back toward the machine as it rises, so you have to position more carefully than with a vertical-lift loader. It is workable for occasional truck loading and tiring as a daily routine.
