The bright segment is what Gehl VT210 is rated to carry; the grey run past it is the rest of its tipping load. Bar length is tipping load drawn to the same scale on every machine on the site, so a short bar is a smaller machine and not a conservative rating.

Gehl publishes no list price for this machine, and we found no dealer listing worth quoting, so there is no number here to give you. What we can say is what the machines around it cost: the middle half of the 21 track loaders within 15 per cent of its capacity list between $63,000 and $70,697. That is a fact about them, not a quote for this one.

Entry point to Gehl's vertical-lift track range, launched off the CONEXPO 2023 V/VT program to replace the radial RT215. Rated 2,100 lbs at 35% of tipping load, which is a more conservative basis than the wheeled V-series uses.

What owners report

Summarised from the sources listed below. Nothing here was tested by us.

Vertical geometry and 23 gpm on the base machine are what separate this one from the rest of Gehl's track loaders. Everything else in the range below the VT320 is radial, lower on standard flow, or both, so buyers who want to load over a truck side and run a decent attachment without ticking the high-flow box end up here more or less by elimination.

The experience is a conventional rigid-roller undercarriage with automatic track tensioning, a Yanmar 4TNV98C making 69.3 hp, and an options list that covers HVAC, air-ride seating and self-leveling rather than shipping them as standard. The 121-inch hinge pin is genuinely useful and the counterweight option is cheap capacity. The soft spot is stability - 5,999 lbs of tipping load under an 8,865 lb machine is less reserve than the weight implies - and single-speed travel that makes a large site feel larger.

Loading trucks on a fixed site, with tracks chosen for the ground conditions rather than for mobility across acreage, is the owner it suits. Gehl publishes no price, so budget by collecting quotes under both the Gehl and Manitou badges and comparing like for like. Before signing, confirm which capacity basis the quote sheet is using, get the undercarriage warranty terms in writing separately from the machine warranty, and satisfy yourself that the nearest dealer actually stocks track and final-drive parts rather than ordering them.

What owners like

  • Gehl publishes the rating on both conventions for this machine - 2,100 lbs at 35 percent of tipping load and 3,000 lbs at 50 percent - so you can line it up honestly against either kind of rival. Most makers print one number and leave the buyer to guess which basis produced it.
  • Twenty-three gpm of standard auxiliary flow is the most of any Gehl track loader below the VT320, and four to five gpm more than the radial RT195 and RT165 leave the factory with. Brooms, augers, grapples and lighter planers run on the base machine instead of waiting on an option.
  • The optional counterweight moves the 35 percent rating from 2,100 to 2,200 lbs without changing the frame, the engine or the tracks, which is the cheapest way to buy back the capacity a heavy coupler and attachment take off the front.
  • A 121-inch hinge pin height is the tallest in Gehl's track loader range short of the VT320, and the vertical path places the bucket out over a tandem's side rather than reaching up and back the way the radial RT machines do.
  • IdealTrax tensions the tracks hydraulically when the engine starts and releases tension when it stops, which removes the grease-cylinder routine entirely; Gehl's own literature puts the gain at up to 15 percent of track life, and the practical benefit is that nobody can forget to check it.
  • The same machine wears a Manitou 2100VT badge, so parts and service can come through whichever of the two dealer networks is closer - and it is worth getting a quote under both names, because the two networks price independently.

What owners complain about

  • Tipping load is the weak number. At 8,865 lbs operating weight the VT210 tips at 5,999 lbs, where a Wacker Neuson ST31 tips at 6,200 lbs while weighing 624 lbs less. You are carrying more machine for less stability than the frame size suggests.
  • No two-speed travel appears anywhere in Gehl's published data for the VT range, so an 8,865 lb machine crosses a site at a single speed while rivals in the same weight class shift into a nine-plus mph range for the long carries.
  • Gehl publishes no list price, so there is no reference figure to measure a dealer quote against and no way to tell a good deal from an average one without shopping several dealers.
  • Everything under the machine is a wear item the similarly-rated wheeled R190 does not have - tracks, rollers, idlers, sprockets and final drives - and on a vertical-lift CTL that undercarriage bill is the difference in lifetime cost, not the purchase price.
  • The VT range is recent enough that high-hour examples and used comparables are scarce, so both resale value and what the machine does at 4,000 hours are open questions rather than known quantities.

What buyers ask

Is the VT210's 2,100 lb rating comparable to a Case or Wacker Neuson number?
Not directly. Gehl headlines this machine at 35 percent of tipping load, while Case, New Holland and Wacker Neuson headline their track loaders at 50 percent. Gehl also publishes the 50 percent figure for the VT210, which is 3,000 lbs - that is the number to put beside a Wacker Neuson ST31's 3,100 lbs. Against a maker that uses 35 percent, use 2,100.
Does the VT210 have two-speed travel?
No two-speed option appears in Gehl's published specifications for the VT range. That is a meaningful limitation on a machine of this weight if your work is spread across a large property, and it is one of the clearest places a rival in the same class pulls ahead.
What does the optional counterweight actually add?
It raises the rating from 2,100 to 2,200 lbs on the 35 percent basis. Nothing else changes - same engine, same tracks, same frame - so it is a straightforward way to offset the capacity you lose to a heavy quick coupler and attachment. Ask for it to be quoted separately so you can see what it costs.
Is IdealTrax something that needs servicing?
It is the opposite of a service item. A hydraulic cylinder tensions the tracks automatically when the engine starts and releases the tension when it shuts down, replacing the manual grease-cylinder adjustment other machines need. Gehl credits it with up to 15 percent more track life, largely because it removes the chance of running over-tensioned for weeks without anyone noticing.
Is the Manitou 2100VT the same machine?
Yes - same machine, different badge and different dealer network. That is worth using. Price it under both names, and if the nearer dealer carries the Manitou badge, buy that one; dealer proximity matters more than the name on the side when a track or a final drive is down.
What does a VT210 cost?
Gehl does not publish a list price for it, so any figure comes from a dealer quote. Collect at least two, ideally one under each badge, and make sure both are specified the same way - HVAC, self-leveling, counterweight and track choice move the number substantially on this machine.
