The bright segment is what Yanmar TL40RP is rated to carry; the grey run past it is the rest of its tipping load. Bar length is tipping load drawn to the same scale on every machine on the site, so a short bar is a smaller machine and not a conservative rating.

Second of the three small-frame Posi-Track loaders Yanmar launched in July 2026, at 38.2 hp and 930 lb rated capacity with 2,480 lb of bucket breakout force. The step up from the TL25RP is engine and hydraulics rather than footprint - it keeps the same 11-inch track and sub-4,400 lb trailering weight.

Also sold as

The same machine is sold as the ASV RT-40 — different paint, different dealer network, same hardware, so the choice is usually about which dealer is closer and which one you would rather owe a service call to.

Suits: Landscapers who found the smallest frame underpowered but still need 11-inch tracks and a light footprint Its radial lift path reaches furthest at mid-height, for digging, grading and backfilling.

What owners of the same hardware report

Nobody has written up this exact machine yet, so this is drawn from reports on the machines that share its hardware — the model it replaced, a sibling on the same platform, or the same machine sold under another badge. The prose says which in each case. It is accurate about the iron rather than about this particular model.

Between a stand-on loader and a proper mid-frame sits a size of machine that gets bought for access, and this is Yanmar's middle small-frame answer. It takes the 11-inch-track chassis of the TL25RP and puts a considerably larger engine in it - 38.2 hp against 23.2 - which changes what the machine can actually accomplish without changing where it fits.

The practical gains over the smaller machine are threefold: 930 lb of rated capacity against 800, 2,480 lb of bucket breakout force, and 13.3 gpm of auxiliary flow against 9.9 gpm, which is what lifts light augers, brooms and grapples from marginal to comfortable. Underneath is the same fully suspended ASV Posi-Track torsion-axle undercarriage with 12 polyethylene and rubber wheels per track on sealed bearings, holding it to 3.3 psi - low enough to cross finished ground a wheeled loader of equivalent capacity would damage. Controls are pilot-operated hydraulic joysticks with a 4.3-inch display showing rpm, temperatures, pressures and diagnostics: simpler than the electronic joysticks and 7-inch screens of the mid-frames, and less configurable. The all-weather cab available here rather than on the TL25RP is the specification that decides whether it works through a winter.

The buyer this fits is a landscaper, property maintenance contractor or rental operation that needs to get through gates and along paths without leaving repair work behind, and needs enough machine to dig rather than only to move mulch. It is not a small mid-frame - 930 lb of capacity and no high-flow option set a firm ceiling. Before signing, compare it honestly against the TL50RP, which for more money brings 53.8 hp, 1,400 lb of capacity and 15-inch tracks on the same hydraulic flow, and price the closely related ASV RT-40 at whichever dealer is nearer.

What owners like

  • 38.2 hp from the turbocharged 3TNV86CT against the TL25RP's 23.2 hp buys real digging and grading pace without making the machine appreciably wider - both ride on 11-inch tracks.
  • 2,480 lb of bucket breakout force against a 930 lb rated capacity is a strong ratio, and it is what makes this a digging machine rather than a carrier with a bucket on the front.
  • 13.3 gpm at 3,000 psi is a third more auxiliary flow than the TL25RP's 9.9 gpm, which is the difference between running light augers, brooms and grapples comfortably and running them marginally.
  • 3.3 psi on the fully suspended ASV Posi-Track undercarriage - two independent torsion axles with 12 ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene and rubber wheels per track on sealed bearings - keeps it off finished surfaces a wheeled machine of the same capacity would tear.
  • An all-weather cab is available on this model, where the smaller TL25RP is limited to open ROPS or a cold-weather cab, so it can be a year-round machine rather than a fair-weather one.

What owners complain about

  • 930 lb of rated capacity is a genuinely small-frame number - full pallets of block or wet material are outside its scope, and buyers cross-shopping mid-frames will find the gap larger than the price difference suggests.
  • No high-flow option exists on any of Yanmar's small-frame machines, so mulching heads and cold planers are off the table regardless of what the attachment catalogue implies.
  • No two-speed travel and a 7.1 mph top speed make it slow across any site large enough to need driving.
  • Yanmar publishes no bucket pin height for the Posi-Track models, leaving a hole in any dump-height comparison against rivals that do publish one.
  • It is a July 2026 machine with no published price and no used market, and it overlaps the ASV RT-40 closely enough that two dealer networks will quote near-identical hardware with the badge as most of the difference.

What buyers ask

How much more machine is the TL40RP than the TL25RP?
Substantially more engine and hydraulics for a similar footprint. 38.2 hp against 23.2, 930 lb of rated capacity against 800, 2,480 lb of breakout force against 2,250, and 13.3 gpm of auxiliary flow against 9.9 gpm - both on 11-inch tracks. The TL40RP also offers an all-weather cab, where the TL25RP is limited to open ROPS or a cold-weather cab.
What attachments will it actually run?
13.3 gpm at 3,000 psi covers light augers, brooms, grapples, buckets, forks, light trenchers and small snow attachments. It will not run a mulching head or a cold planer, and no high-flow option exists on any of Yanmar's small-frame models, so that is a ceiling rather than a configuration choice. Match each attachment's published flow requirement before buying it.
Should I step up to the TL50RP instead?
If you regularly work near the limit, probably. The TL50RP brings 53.8 hp, 1,400 lb of rated capacity, 2,920 lb of breakout force and 15-inch tracks at 3.0 psi, for 1,175 lb more machine. Auxiliary flow is identical at 13.3 gpm, so the step up is about digging and lifting, not attachments. If access is the binding constraint, staying with the narrower machine is the right call.
Is it too small to be a real work machine?
It depends on the work. With 2,480 lb of breakout force against 930 lb of rated capacity it digs well for its size and is not merely a material mover. What it will not do is carry full pallets of block or wet aggregate, so if that is a regular part of the day, this is the wrong frame size and a mid-frame is the honest answer.
How does the Posi-Track undercarriage affect running costs?
It floats better and costs more to maintain than a conventional design. Two independent torsion axles and 12 polyethylene and rubber wheels per track on sealed bearings are more components than a rigid undercarriage has, and all-rubber belts dislike rock and concrete debris even though they outlast steel-embedded tracks on soil and turf. Ask for the undercarriage parts price list in writing before you sign.

It runs a steel-embedded rubber track, which is what separates it from the TL65RP that now sits beside it on Yanmar's Posi-Track undercarriage at slightly lower rated capacity.
